Dreamy Italy: Massa Lubrense

Dress: Zara | Knit: Club Monaco | Shoes: PLV | Esmae’s Dress: Bonpoint | Esmae’s Shoes: Gucci

Dreamy, heavenly, unreal. Those are the words that come to mind when I think back to Massa Lubrense. But lets backtrack and start with the beginning of our trip.

We had a nonstop overnight flight from Toronto-to-Rome and arrived to Italy in the morning. Esmae did really well, she fell asleep as we boarded, slept straight through and woke up in the morning post landing. When traveling with children, overnight flights are ideal.

We then picked up our rental car and left Rome, drove through Naples, over to Sorrento and then our final stop was the Relais Blu Hotel. It sounds like a lot to do in one day, but in reality the drive should take only about 3-4 hours. But if you’ve ever been to Italy before, you already know how scenic, beautiful and captivating it is, so about 30 pit stops later, we arrived after a 7-hour duration.

Side note: I wanted to mention when booking a rental car in Italy, its actually better to not book ahead of time and book a car when you are there. Both times when we visited Italy, the car we rented and paid for ahead of time was never available. They give you “whats left” sort-of-speak, and you don’t get a refund. So for next time, we will just book what is available when we arrive to avoid paying unnecessary fees and save a few hundred dollars.

We checked into a beautiful Suite at Relais Blue, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and the stunning island of Capri. There are truly no words to describe how beautiful and serene this hotel is and its views. We had a magical 3 days here, and wished we stayed much longer. I absolutely loved how this coast is free of crowded tourists, 15 minutes from Capri via boat, and about 20 minutes from Sorrento.

This part of our trip felt like a slice of heaven and we would highly recommend it. You still get the beautiful coastline feel, minus the tourists and crowds. I feel that this part of our trip is totally accessible with kids, if your kids travel well.

**Please leave other questions below for me to answer in my next Italy posts when I discuss Capri,

Positano, Amalfi, Tuscany, Florence and Rome.

Esmae’s Transition to a Big-Girl-Room

Room Details

Bed | RugQuiltGiraffeSheets |PerfumeClothing RackVelvet E Pillow

Reading Chair & Wardrobe | Pink Boots | Pink Ballet Slippers | Vanity Bag | Bonjour Sign

Unicorn Pouf and Mirrors – Marshalls/Home Goods

Lull Mattress

Pink Silk dress with Feathers

I’ve had so much fun transitioning Esmae out of her crib into a real bed. It was such a bittersweet moment in time, but we are enjoying this new stage and age! Of course a new bed gave me reason to change things up in her room. I’ve listed all the main details above.

A few brands worth noting:

Lull Mattresses – I cannot put into words how much we love this mattress, its so comfortable and gives great back support! We started calling it the “magic sleeper” because in the evenings when we put Esmae down, my husband or I will lay next to her until she dozes off. Well, we’ve been laughing about this for weeks but we’ve been falling asleep before her. I thought it was just us, but once my sister was watching Esmae during her nap, and fell asleep putting her down midday! Its hilarious, but most importantly we highly recommend this brand! Head to their website to read more!

Rug – Ive had my eye on this gorgeous rug for almost a year. Recently, Lulu & Georgia reduced their pricing on this particular rug (about 20%)  from the original listing price and its amazing! This rug is pricy, but I promise you its worth it. The quality is out of this world, and the colors warm and cheer up her room so much!

Velvet E Pillow – I love to support amazing artisans who produce quality products with their bare hands. The company who hand made this pillow for Esmae is from Ukraine and ship worldwide. They make the most stunning pieces from children’s clothing to room decor.

Vanity Bag – I discovered this brand on Instagram, and after receiving a few products I wanted to share how absolutely amazing and soft the quality is! I plan to get many more pieces with my next baby in the future!! Check out their baby sleeping bags! Perfect to place your baby into for night time!

Booties – I wanted to share an amazing boutique for luxury children’s clothing, called Nickis.com. I have been working with Nickis for some time and I have to say they get amazing selections and have the best designer sales! They have also generously gifted me a promo code to share with you guys for 20% off your purchase! PROMO: VICTORIA20

Thank you so much for stopping by,

please leave questions/comments below and I will get back to you individually!

New York Minute

I took a super quick trip into the city to meet with a few brands and attend an event. While in theory I figured it would be easy to do a work trip with a toddler because Esmae is such a good traveler (thus far!), it was still a bit challenging when you are on a time crunch. Luckily staying at our home away from home, the New York Palace helped make this trip feel like I truly was right at home! Not only is the hotel stunning, but the key is location, location, LOCATION!

For the event I attended, I paired this gorgeous feminine dress with bold accessories to give it a chic edgy look. I had countless compliments on my “Zimmermann dress” and I loved to see everyones reactions when I told them my dress was in-fact from forever 21, but has total Zimmermann vibes! Goes to show that it is totally possible to dress chic and stylish if you are on a budget, because money can’t buy great taste.

Another huge help on this trip was the Babyzen YOYO stroller, that is LIGHT, easy to fold, and so compact! Esmae found it comfortable as well. Ive partnered up with babyzen, and am excited to host a giveaway on my Instagram, giving away one of these amazing strollers to a follower who is always engaging in my content!

Wishing you a lovely day!

Saint Lucia

I wasn’t really sure where to start with this post, because I have something to say in so many categories, but I figured the Island is a good place to begin. St. Lucia is known for its mountain views, natural waterfalls, and out-of-this-world aqua beaches. It’s often called the “Hawaii of the East”, which made its way on our bucket list years ago.

Upon arrival you can see where the mountains touch the waters and shades of aqua fill the sea from your airplane window, and it literally takes your breathe away. A quick passport check and we were on our way to the Royalton St Lucia, which happened to be completely on the tip of the other side of the island. We had a rollercoaster of a ride, taking about 1.5 hours. And I say rollercoaster because the roads literally lead you up and down mountains, but luckily we had the chance to see the entire island just by driving to our destination, pit stops included because there area a lot of raw beaches and view points the driver wanted us to see!

We checked into the Royalton, which is a new all-inclusive resort in St. Lucia and from first impression we absolutely loved what we saw! We booked a swim-out room because we figured it would be a great way to enjoy the stay with Esmae, and it was incredibly convenient! Highly recommend! The resort is modern/contemporary styled, clean and simple. We loved the layout/style/ambiance!

The resort offers a few restaurants for dinner dining; Italian, Japanese, American, West Indies, Culinary Experience (course-dining), Seafood and a buffet open for breakfast-lunch-dinner. Typical for an all inclusive resort. The restaurant food was good (7-8/10) and the buffet food had a lot of options, but tase wise I would rate it a 6.5/10. I was not impressed with the buffet in this resort. I was impressed with the variety of options, but disappointed in the dessert and fruit selection! (No Biggie for us though, probably better for our waistlines anyways, haha!). There is also a cute little cafe shop in the lobby for espressos and other coffee/tea beverages, dessert, and ice cream which we visited daily. Next to the pool and beach there is a food truck offering burgers, fries, hot dogs, onion rings, chicken, coleslaw, and nachos for those poolside munchies.

The pools and beach areas all had comfy lounge chairs, cabanas and umbrellas. The design is very well done, and sets the right kind of mood for your stay.

This resort also offers an upgraded stay (Diamond Club) and an adults only area (Hideaway). They cater amazingly to kids with a water park, dry playground, a trampoline, and an indoor kids playroom. There are also a load of activities you can do on and off the resort! Next time we would love to explore the island more!

We definitely plan to return to this resort and Island in the future, despite any negatives we may have had, the benefits outweigh the negatives by far.

Inglesina Trilogy Travel Stroller

I loved to take walks with Esmae before and after dinner in my Inglesina Trilogy Stroller. This is my first trip traveling with this lightweight Inglesina Stroller, and I must say, the more I used it the more I loved it. It fully reclined for all her outdoor naps, and was very comfortable to both stroll, pack away and travel with. I loved how the canopy unzips with a net layer, to give her fresh air during naps. The basket underneath also was a great storage container for me daily. I bought a stroller bag (Click here) on amazon to keep this stroller safe during our flight there and back. This stroller made our trip so much easier, especially when Esmae would sleep through dinner and give us a little break.

Esmae’s Outfits

The weather was amazing during our entire weeklong stay, making it so fun to dress up and down. I kept my wardrobe fairy casual for this trip because I knew I would be chasing a toddler daily. But of course I completely overpacked for Esmae, because it was impossible to choose just a handful of outfits. I partnered up with Bambini Fashion, and Voila Bebe Shop for Esmae’s outfits. Each piece is tagged in photos above.

Bambini Fashion is an online children’s boutique offering the latest selection of designer children’s items. They get new arrivals weekly, and have some of the best brands and styles I have seen! I styles a few pieces from Bambini during the trip, and will be styling them all spring and summer long! They also have designer sales, and offer free shipping too! Highly Recommend!

For day-night looks, I styles esmae in dresses from Voila Bebe shop, which has become one of my favorite shops to visit weekly! The selection and price points of this shop are amazing! There are so many brands offered, and the selection of European styled baby clothing is outstanding.

Packing Essentials

When packing for a toddler, my essentials include the following:

Diapers, swimmable diapers, rash cream/honest healing balm

Children’s Tylenol, benedryl (because you never know!!)

50-100SPF sunscrean and aloe vera gel

Bottles (I brought 2), travel size dish soap and bottle wand

Sippy cup for water

Holle Formula (Esmae still takes a bottle before naps/sleep, and I was so nervous to give her the milk they offer there, so I brought an organic formula with me just incase. She normally never drinks/drank formula, but she had no problem with it when I offered it during our trip).

Sun hat

2-4 Bathing suits

Long sleeve cotton/linen blouse/top to protect her from the sun

A few dinner outfits

A few day outfits

2 cooler day/night outfits/ cardigans – I brought my Oscar Et Valentine pieces

Water shoes

Sandals

Snacks for the plane

Dry Snacks for the trip (puffs, pretzels)

iPad with downloaded cartoons you can watch with or without wifi

Esmae in Mini Muse

I’ve had the pleasure of styling these gorgeous pieces from a new French children’s boutique called Mini Muse. Mini Muse is a new up and coming brand that loves to dress children in quality designs, with classic silhouettes. I was honored that Esmae was selected to be their brand ambassador. As a lover of quality children’s clothing, neutral colors, and photography, this was an organic fit.

The designs are wonderful, catering to both boys and girls, but what I love most is the quality of the cashmere and the fit. Testing out our new Mini Muse pieces for a few weeks, and then washing them, I am learning that the fabric only gets better and fluffier with each wash. (Click here for my favorite cashmere wash).

My favorite piece from the entire collection is the all in one pramsuit. It’s perfect in every aspect, and gets a lot of wear in our freezing New York winters.

I am excited to announce that Mini Muse is offering you guys a few discounts.

Enter Promo code: Victoria for 20% off your purchase of 200 Euros or more!

Traveling with a Busy Toddler

Coat: Banana Republic (Sold Out) | Beret | Boots | Bag

Hi there! I just wanted to stop in and share a few traveling tips that keep a busy toddler busy! Luckily Esmaé is a pretty good traveler and loves to nap everywhere, but we have plenty of difficult moments too. Especially on those on-the-go trips.

You may have tried/heard of most of these, but if not I hope they work for you as well as they do for us! Also, please share your tips below! I would LOVE to learn more!

  1. Be well prepared, planned and organized. You want to make sure you know where everything is, so when fussiness comes you can calm your child quickly and stress free.
  2. Bring snacks in separate containers and baggies. This keeps Esmaé preoccupied for a while because she loves to open containers and baggies to get her snacks. I try not to over fill the bags but put small snack handfuls in each. I love to give her snacks when she’s been in the stroller a while and wants out. Our favorites are: pretzels, puffs, gold fish, veggie sticks, apple slices and cheese sticks.
  3. Bring on the go 2-3 Crayons and a small note pad. This works wonders in restaurants that don’t cater to children.
  4. Boogle board. If you don’t already have this – then you must! I have 3! One in the house, one in the car and one in my diaper/baby bag!
  5. Ipad!!!! So I used to think I would be one of those moms who will not let my child use electronics, and then I had a child. Haha! But sometimes you just want eat a meal without getting interrupted for 5 minutes. I also like to let her play/watch it in that moment I’m at the register and she decides she’s over it. Its been a life saver. You can create a hotspot with your phone and connect to the internet from anywhere.
  6. Bring 1-2 of their favorite toys. I don’t like to bring too many incase you end up loosing something, which happens often.
  7. Take Breaks – when on the go, we like to take Esmaé out of the stroller and let her run around for a few minutes to let her burn some energy. That way by the time we need to sit down for a lunch or dinner, or if I want to visit a store for a little shopping trip she will sit relaxed in the stroller.
  8. Invest in a good travel stroller! This one is huge for me! because a good/sturdy/comfortable stroller makes your life easier. Its a place they can sit and eat, sleep and nap.
  9. Have on hand extra diapers, wipes and 1 set of clothes at all times. Because you never know.
  10. Water wipes! These are a must to clean up spills, wash hands and face, clean a surface, toys that have rolled on the ground etc.

Id love to hear your tips and tricks to keep your toddler busy ! Please share them below!

My Breastfeeding Journey: 14 Months of Nursing

Picture

Picture

Picture

Picture

It is difficult to imagine how quickly the rate of time moves within the first year of motherhood. So many new experiences, new chapters, new challenges, new joy, new routines, new changes and a whole new depth of love.

This past year had been the best year of my life, but also the most difficult thus far and this is not something that can be easily put into words, but experienced first hand. With that said, the topic of breastfeeding/nursing is the first that comes to mind.

The Beginning of Breastfeeding:
No one really warns you about this, sure every one tells you how great it is for the baby, but the actual act of breastfeeding is an animal of its own, from my experience. My beginning looked a lot like this: excruciating pain for the first few weeks, cracking, bleeding and then about two months in, things get better (nipple butters are your best friends). As painful as it was in the beginning I knew it was something I wanted to give Esmae for as long as I was able. Going through six years of college studying nutrition and dietetics, you bet I am a huge advocate for breastfeeding.
My personal goal was to make it to about 12 months. I tried to do everything possible not to supplement and yes there were days that I was questioning if she was getting enough. But as a new mother I know this is a normal feeling to have.
Around the 6-7 month mark things began to change as the baby develops and it can get harder to nurse because everything is a distraction and feeds could last for hours sometimes. But I enjoyed every minute of nursing my baby, cradling her and bonding with her. Luckily we were able to go past a year, even though it was touch and go for a while (from 7- 9 months, mainly questioning and making sure she was getting enouch). It would be so easy to quit, when things were difficult and stressful, but I was too stubborn to give up just yet. I read everything I could find to keep my supply up. I learned that it really is a supply and demand system, so this means that the more the baby eats and sucks the more you will produce. It took me at least 7 months to get this concept, and on days when I felt like my supply would take a dip, I would try to stretch feedings to make a larger quantity for the next feeding. This is all wrong, the best thing to do is to just let the baby nurse more often through out the day and your body will know to make more because the baby takes it all away. After I started doing this, my supply just about doubled.

Here are things I did to help my supply:

  • Fenugreek supplements – daily
  • Earth Mama Angel Baby Milkmaid tea -2x a day
  • Lots of water and herbal/fruit tea – daily
  • Oatmeal lactation cookies (here is a good recipe) I always doubled the brewers yeast and flax meal

Now, around 9-10 months I began to see how Esmae began to nurse for comfort (they are master manipulators). Not only did she need to nurse for food, she began to demand feedings more often during the day and night. Night feedings were the most difficult because there were times she would wake 4-6 times just to nurse for a few seconds and go back to sleep. I knew this was comfort nursing and it became a bad habit from there. It was soothing for her and anytime she was upset she wanted to nurse; I became her human pacifier. But still, I wanted to continue and I was not ready to stop, and neither was she. We made it to a year, and my supply was great but things began to turn for the worse as she began to wake around 1 am and would sleep while nursing for 2-3 hours. I was so sleep deprived and I knew I needed to try to wean her off.

After one year, the first thing I tried to give her besides breastmilk is goat milk. That did not go over too well, and she was just not a fan. I gave goat milk a try first because I read that often it may be digested easier and it may be a good way to begin a transition. Clearly it did not work for us. But since she was already one, I decided to try with whole cows milk. She also was not a fan because she was upset with the bottle. For the past year she has been getting the breast and when I tried to give her a bottle she was not receiving of it. That was another issue. So I stopped trying. She did however love the sipply cup, but would only drink water from it. So here and there I would put warm milk in there just to get her used to the taste of milk.

Weaning:

Now going forward to 14 months, I was still nursing until one Saturday night I hit a breaking point. That night she nursed for practically the entire night while asleep, and when I tried to stop she would immediately wake (yup, human pacifier I tell you).
I woke up on Sunday morning exhausted and frustrated. As we were getting ready for Sunday morning church service I told my husband that I am done, and this is it for my breastfeeding journey. So I put on a high neck dress that zips in the back (so that she cannot pull my top down and reach for it – because we reached that point already) I packed a bottle with warm whole milk and off we went.
Our services are about 2 hours in length and it took her the entire time to fight me, but I did not give in. She kept trying to reach for it, showed signs of hunger, and was so tired as it is her nap time. But I waited it out and kept offering the bottle. Finally 2 hours in and she gave in, not only did she just take the bottle because she was hungry and tired, but she fell asleep while drinking from the bottle. This was something new for us, a win, and I knew that if she took it once, she will take it again. When we got home I offered only the bottle when she showed me hunger signs to get her used to it. She did not refuse it anymore. But at night she still wanted to nurse. So I changed things up, when she would wake instead of giving her the bottle or breast, I picked her up and rocked her back to sleep. Trust me this is much harder than it seems because you’re exhausted yourself and you pretty much walk around the house in the dark until your baby is asleep. I did this the first night every time she woke up. The following morning I gave her the bottle without issues. After this I never nursed again. The second night she didn’t even wake and I was in complete shock. It took her about 3 days in total and she stopped asking for the breast all together. I did have to pump a bit to relieve pressure until my milk would stop (about 1 week). Now she normally goes to bed around 8:30/9 and wakes at 8am with no feedings at night. Lets just say it feels good to be rested and feel human again.
In all honesty I was shocked that it was actually a pretty easy process and transition for us because of how attached she was. My husband and I always joked that she will nurse until she’s 18 all the time, haha! I think every baby is different and will adjust differently, but I think the most important concept is to stick to whatever you are doing when you are weaning off.

Things I learned and will do differently with the next baby:

  • Introduce a bottle earlier, around 6-7 months and in addition to nursing, pump and give milk through a bottle for a few feedings a day
  • Begin to wean the baby off a little earlier than 14 months because every month past 11 months got much more difficult to stop
  • Instead of offering to nurse or bottle feed at night, rock the baby to sleep without feedings (if baby is at a healthy weight) and dismiss night time feedings before they become a regular thing.

I hope you found this post helpful, I’d love to hear feedback, or your experiences below.

Secrets, Tips and Cyber Monday Deals

The holiday season is truly the best time of the year, but if you wait until the last minute to get your gifts in order than stressful is the first word that comes to mind. The good thing is that we live in a time and age where online shopping is quick, easy, and practically fool-proof. Holiday guides, gift guides and what other names stores, brands or other influencers call it are helpful tools to help you gather ideas about what to purchase.

Personally I like to get an early start on shopping because I have a large family. And the truth is that the best time to get your gifts is from the week of black Friday – cyber Monday. Most online stores begin sales as early as Monday, and by Black Friday many stores do as much as 50% off your purchase. This is the best time to buy the items you are going to end up buying anyways. And the perks of ordering now, is 1. you have plenty of time to wrap gifts and 2. everything already comes in boxes, all you need to go is wrap and place under the tree.

Below I am listing my favorite stores to visit to get your gifts for a steal.

Click on the store name in PINK to go directly to that store:

The first online store that comes to mind is

GILT.COM

Not only are items on here already discounted, they very often do 30-40% off of your purchase! They have top brands such as UGG, Hunter, BCBG, Burberry, high end designers and many, many more! This is the first place I would recommend you visit.

Others Include:

Nordstrom

Zara
